  • Uganda Day

    Wed 25 Jan 2017
We had a very successful Uganda day on Tuesday. The children researched about Uganda and were involved in making quizzes and compiling fact sheets to share their knowledge. We had a visit from Dodie who shared with us some photographs of our link school, Kawoko, from her last visit in October. She talked about the changes the school has made using the funding we have been able to give them- projects include a clean water storage tank, four lights for the classrooms and some pigs! We raised over £100 by wearing red, yellow and black to school and we know it will be put to good use. We also made two books about our school and left blank pages for our friends at Kawoko to write in about their school. Each school will then keep one of these books in their school so we can read and learn about each other. Dodie will be taking these to Uganda in February. We look forward to sharing them with the children next term.
  • Competition Time!

    Tue 10 Jan 2017
We have asked all pupils to submit a design for the outside area by Oak and Acorn classes. We want to redevelop this learning environment for our younger pupils. This morning we had our first two entries- and there were some amazing ideas (the zip wire is my favourite!) included. Get thinking about how we can improve this space and hand entries in by Monday 16th January!
  • Happy New Year!

    Fri 06 Jan 2017
Happy New Year to you all! The school year has started well with children settling straight into their learning and beginning exciting new topics: Ancient Greece and Egypt, Puppets and a Winter Wonderland! This last one really reflects the temperatures we have at the moment- please ensure your child comes to school with a warm coat. We have a whole range of clubs beginning next week and hopefully every child has wanted to join at least one- getting involved in wider school life can make a real difference to how well a child achieves overall.
  • Panto Fun!

    Tue 06 Dec 2016
The whole school enjoyed a visit to the Corn Exchange in Newbury to enjoy the Cinderella pantomime. The children sang, danced, hissed and cheered with gusto and were a real credit to the school. Thank you Mr Kirby for giving the children this wonderful opportunity!
  • Secret Shopping Success!

    Tue 06 Dec 2016

Fridays Secret Shopping was a fantastic success- raising over £850!!! Thank you to everyone who donated gifts, helped to sort and organise the gifts and then sell them. A special mention to Mrs Gannon who organised the event. The School Council will now decide how they would like to spend the money to improve the school for all the children. We hope all the parents enjoy their gifts on Christmas Day!

  • Water Aid Cake Sale

    Sat 26 Nov 2016
On Friday Grace L and Grace C, Year 6 pupils, ran a cake sale to raise funds for Water Aid. They were inspired to do something positive for the charity following an assembly by Mrs Field. They organised the whole thing themselves. There was a fabulous donation of cakes and a very busy stall! We will let you know how much the girls raised. Well done girls!
  • Anti-Bullying week

    Mon 21 Nov 2016

Last week children learnt about 'The Power of Good' through our Anti-bullying week. The message was very clear- it is much more powerful to say kind words and to make someone feel good than not. Today everyone wore something royal blue to show their support for Anti-bullying week and to say 'No' to bullying- it doesn't belong at Burghclere.

The children sang songs, recited poems, shared good powerful words and phrases through their kind hands and persuasive posters.

During the week we also discussed the definition of bullying- the repeated and deliberate hurting of another person.

We ended today by asking parents to sign up to our Anti-bullying charter along with staff and children. Work will be displayed in the school so please come along and have a look!

  • Independence Week!

    Tue 08 Nov 2016
We are encouraging all children to develop their independence (one of our school learning values) this week and to come into the school building by themselves in the morning. So far the majority of pupils have shown they are able to do this- well done! Thank you to all the parents who have supported their children in doing this. It has also made a huge difference to the room available in the cloakrooms for the children to put their own things away.
  • Be Safe, Be Seen!

    Tue 08 Nov 2016
Our Junior Road Safety Officers have organised a Be Safe, Be Seen day on Friday! They would like everyone to wear something bright on top of their usual school uniform. This is part of a nation wide road safety campaign to highlight the importance of making sure cars can see pedestrians when walking alongside a road in the dark.
  • School Games Bronze Award!

    Tue 11 Oct 2016
We have just achieved our first ever Bronze level School Games Award for our commitment, engagement and delivery of competitive school sport in 2015/16. This reflects the real focus and drive we have had to get more of our children involved in sports clubs and inter-school competitions. This has been supported by FOBs who have purchased some fantastic sports kits for our children to wear when representing the school. We look forward to seeing this being worn by our children over the next year. Well done Mr Edgington for putting the application for the award together.
