Welcome to Oak Class!
Teachers: Mrs Barraclough and Mrs Maynard
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Rose
Autumn Term 1 2019
We have had a great start to the new school year in Oak Class with the children making compasses and binoculars as an introduction to our topic 'Great Explorers' and hunting for the Gingerbread Man who left us lots of clues!
In English we are going to be using a story map to help us learn the Gingerbread Man story and then imitate it by writing our own versions. We will be learning how to write instructions and wanted posters and designing and decorating our own Gingerbread people.
Our main focus for our maths lessons is to secure our knowledge of place value and really understand what a number represents.
Our 'Great Explorers' topic will be focussing on the achievements of Ibn Battuta, Christopher Columbus and Captain Robert Scott and we will be making some clay animals to represent those that these famous explorers might have encountered.
The children have now all chosen a library book and we change library books on Mondays. Home readers can be changed by the children as often as they wish and we encourage them to take responsibility for choosing their reading books in the book area outside of our classroom. The children need their PE kits in school every day although our regular PE days are Monday and Friday.
We operate an open door policy and are happy to talk with you at the beginning or end of the school day - if a more formal discussion is needed then an appointment can be made with the office.
