Oak Year 1/2

Welcome to Oak Class

Teacher: Mrs Barraclough

LSA: Mrs Fulcher

summer 2

Our PE days are Monday and Wednesday.  We will be doing athletics and practicing our skills for Sports Day.

Reading and Spellings

  • YEAR ONE children will be reading a matched decodable book at school and will bring this book home for the weekend.  This book must be brought back to school on Mondays.  Children will be bringing home a practice reading (colour banded) book to share with you at home and this can be changed daily if required.
  • YEAR TWO children will continue with the colour banded books as they have completed their phonic teaching.

We encourage all children to read a variety of books, including library books, newspapers, comics, magazines and online books.

We can all change our library books on Fridays, however Year One children have the opportunity to change their library books more frequently to enable them to share a book with an adult or sibling as they are not using the banded books .  Spellings are tested weekly on Friday and are based on the phonemes and spelling strategies taught at school in the previous week.

Our Topic this term is Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside!

We will be focusing on different habitats and getting hands on during our visit to Lepe Country Park on Thursday 7th July.  We will be looking at traditional seaside activities such as making sand castles, riding on a donkey and Punch and Judy shows and designing and making our own hand puppets.

We are learning about the School Value of Creativity.

Cora The Creative Caterpillar

We express ourselves in different ways.

We think outside the box.

We enjoy solving problems.

We learn using different approaches.

Please let me know if you see your child showing our school values, especially Creativity, outside of school and we can celebrate this in our assembly.

Thank you for your continued support.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask and I will help if I can!
