spring term 2
General Information
Our PE days are Monday (outside) and Wednesday (inside).
Our library days are Tuesday and Friday, although the children have the option to change their books more frequently as required.
Reading
Children who are following the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds phonics program have 3 guided reading sessions per week which focus on decoding, prosody and comprehension. They will bring their fully decodable books home at the end of the week to read with you and will choose library books each week to share and develop a love for reading.
Children who have completed the Little Wandle programme will access the coloured book banded scheme and will be listened to at school at least once per week.
Please record any reading your child is doing at home in their Reading Records and ensure they bring their reading records to school everyday.
Topic
Our geography topic for the spring term is Weather and Fieldwork and our big question is:
What is weather?
We will be learning about different types of weather and the four seasons in the UK. We will be measuring and recording the weather over time: wind, rainfall and temperature, and thinking about the best conditions for growing plants.
Our science topic this term is types of animals and our big question is:
How can you design a zoo guide map?
In science this term we will be observing and recognising some simple characteristics of animals. We will start to group animals by the key features of their appearance. We have an exciting trip to Bucklebury Farm and Deer Park as part of our science topic where we will be experiencing live animals first hand. We will work towards creating a plan of a zoo environment incorporating different types of animals in the design.
School Values
Our school value this term is Resilience.
Robbie the Resilient Rhino
If you notice your child showing our school value of resilience at home then please do let me know so that we can celebrate this at school.
I operate an open door policy so if you have any questions or comments about your child or Oak class in general then please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for your continued support.
