Oak Year 1/2

Welcome to Oak Class!

Teachers: Mrs Barraclough and Mrs Maynard

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Rose

Summer Term 2 2019

We have been enjoying a very exciting Art Week at school and the children have produced some lovely watercolour landscapes, printed a castle and made a clay model.  We were very lucky to have a visit from Tim Furr who shared one of his stories with us and then showed us how to draw using letters of the alphabet!  Mary Sutton came to Oak class on Tuesday afternoon and showed us how to use layering to create sea scapes which are really effective.

Castles and Knights

Our topic this term is based on Castles and Knights and we are looking forward to visiting Windsor Castle as our topic hook (even in the rain!). In our English lessons we will be finding out facts and information  related to our topic and choosing to write in a variety of genres to show off all of our skills we have learnt this year.  Look out for stories, fact files and poems!  Our Mathematics lessons will be focussing on statistics and continuing to develop our calculating skills.

In Religious Education we will be looking at the concept of 'Authority' and learning about events in Jesus' life.  In Science we are looking at materials and we will be creating a Drawbridge in DT so thank you for collecting boxes in preparation for this!

The children will  continue to bring their reading records and books home to share with you and we encourage them to change these books in the library outside our classroom as often as they can. Year one children should continue to practice phonic sounds using the phonics packs that have been sent home. Thank you for your continued support in this.  We are hearing the children read at school at various times throughout the school day and during guided reading sessions.  Any opportunities to hear and encourage your child to read at school and at home are invaluable to their learning!

Our P.E. days are: Monday and Friday

Our Library Book changing day is: Monday

If you have any questions or queries about your child's learning please do not hesitate to speak to us!

Here are some useful websites for Oak Class children to continue their learning at home.
