Oak Year 1/2

Welcome to Oak Class!

Teachers: Mrs Barraclough and Mrs Maynard

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Rose

Spring Term 2 2019

We are learning all about Victorians in our topic work this half term.  We had a great trip to Reading Museum where the children and staff dressed in Victorian clothes and took on the role of school children in the Victorian Schoolroom.  We learnt how to write on slate with a chalk and practiced our handwriting using a pen dipped in ink. Some children seemed to have more ink on their fingers than on their page by the end of the session!

The children have been busy writing narratives based on 'The Papaya That Spoke' Talk4Writing story and are now busy writing letters and finding out why the crayons quit in Guided Reading.

In mathematics we are focusing on developing addition and subtraction skills and have been counting forwards and backwards in 10s from a given number.

The children will  continue to bring their reading records and books home to share with you and we encourage them to change these books in the library outside our classroom as often as they can. Year one children should be practicing their phonic sounds using the phonics packs that have been sent home. Thank you for your continued support in this.  We are hearing the children read at school at various times throughout the school day and during guided reading sessions.  Any opportunities to hear and encourage your child to read at school and at home are invaluable to their learning!

Our P.E. days are: Monday and Friday

Our Library Book changing day is: Monday

If you have any questions or queries about your child's learning please do not hesitate to speak to us!
