Design & Technology
Design Technology projects provide children with opportunities to design and make products using a wide range of materials, techniques and tools.
The children examine everyday products and discuss their effectiveness. They study structures and how simple mechanisms can be used to make moving models. Children evaluate their work as it develops, bearing in mind the purpose for which it is intended.
Music plays an important part in the lives of children at Burghclere Primary School. The music curriculum involves composing, performing, listening and appraising. Children are given opportunities to improvise, compose and perform using pitched and non-pitched percussion with instruments and in singing.
They are given opportunities to listen to and evaluate a range of music from ancient to present-day and from a variety of cultures, including music composed by themselves and other children. Music features regularly in class assemblies, church services and School concerts.
Tuition is available on brass instruments from a visiting peripatetic teacher, and all children in KS2 are given the opportunity to learn these instruments and to become members of the thriving School Band.
Years 3 and 4 also take part in the Listen2Me programme, where they are taught a different instrument each term by a music teacher from Hampshire Music Service. This can range from violin to African drums.
Through art, pupils record their ideas and feelings confidently and show developing ability to represent what they see and touch. They will experience a variety of materials and techniques and will have the opportunity to develop manual skills.
They work practically and imaginatively and present their work in 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional pictures and models. Children will explore the work of artists from historical periods and from other cultures.
